The Rueda Designation of Origin classifies white wines
in a way that is different to most Spanish areas with a D.O.,
with a view to promoting the distinguishing character of our
local variety, i.e. the Verdejo grape.
On the one hand, there are three types, which are marked by their
proportion of varieties and by their quality: Rueda Verdejo,
Rueda Sauvignon and Rueda. On the other, there are wines that
are classified by their process: Rueda Espumoso; and type of
ageing: Rueda Pálido and Rueda Dorado.
This classification makes it possible to know the differences
between the different wines better, independent of the ageing
times that are usually given on the back label of other areas

RUEDA
VERDEJO
Between 11.5 and 14 °C must have a minimum percentage of
85% of the Verdejo variety, although it is frequently monovarietal,
with the possibility of a slower evolution process thanks to
the occasional addition of a certain percentage of viura, and
a high proportion of must-bud. On the label, it is obligatory
to state the year of the vintage. The fruity aroma takes on certain
hints of aniseed and fennel when it has been in the bottle longer
than 3 months. In the mouth, it shows volume and some have considered
it as the white variety with the most body and structure but,
at the same time, with great fruitiness and a hint of bitterness
that is characteristic of the variety.
It is generally blended with Viura due to its oxidative evolution,
which is slower than the Verdejo, and the fact that it hardly
affects the colour. |

RUEDA
SAUVIGNON
The Rueda Sauvignon wine (100% varietal) between 11 and 14 °C,
whose careful process and consequent high quality is at the same
level as the Rueda Verdejo wine is made with the Sauvignon Blanc
variety, perfectly adapted to the soil and climate of the Rueda
region. The wines are characterised by their aromatic intensity
and hints of tropical fruit. In the mouth, it is pleasant and
has a lasting finish. The label must show the year of the harvest. |
 |
| |
RUEDA
The Rueda type is a wine of between 11 and 14 °C, with a
minimum participation of 50% of grapes of the Verdejo variety.
This group is made up of wines where the specific character and
body of the Verdejo are more diluted by the presence of the other
varieties. The label must show the year of the harvest.
In general, it is not compulsory for the must to be bud type,
albeit true that the oenological quality must be assured, and
have an excellent price-quality ratio. |

ESPUMOSO
RUEDA
It is obtained by the traditional method of the second fermentation
in the bottle and an aging period in the bottle of no less than
9 months. In this process, the Verdejo develops a large potential
for a fruity and delicate nature, which contrasts with the rotund
character of the white Rueda Verdejo. Depending on whether they
are dry or semi-dry, they are made with a minimum of 50% of verdejo
grape, and if they are Brut or Brut Nature, they are made with
a minimum of 85% of verdejo grape. |

DORADO
RUEDA
With an alcohol volume of 15 °C or more. A liqueur wine,
dry, obtained with oxidative ageing, it must remain in oak for
at least the two years immediately before its commercialisation.
Its colour is golden with a slight hint of roast in its aroma
and taste that is due to its long oxidisation in wood.
Rueda Pálido, with an alcohol volume of 15 °C or more,
its aeging process is carried out by keeping the wine in oak
for at least three years immediately before its commercialisation. |
